Cricket - 1st XI Boys Victory

The Kristin First XI Boys started their season on Saturday hosting Avondale College First XI. Rain delayed the start by one hour and reduced the match to 40 overs. Kristin battled the conditions and overcome a strong Avondale challenge to secure an important first round victory.

Avondale were bowled out for 112 in 33 overs thanks to an outstanding spell of bowling from Captain Matthew Spicer. Spicer took a wicket with the first ball of the match and continued to decimate the Avondale line up, finishing with six wickets and only conceding 18 runs from eight overs.  Ollie Barton and Pero Garlick bowled well in support taking two wickets each in their allotted five overs and finishing with figures of 2/13 & 2/15 respectively.

Captain Spicer was crucial again as he consolidated the batting innings with a well compiled 42 from 70 balls. Barton took responsibility to secure the win, batting patiently in support of his captain. As the heavens opened, Barton unleashed in overs 30 & 31 to secure the result and finished with 29 not out. Special mention to Year 10 students Alister McLellan and Will Spicer, who nervously made themselves available to play with the team down two players. Their contribution in the field was vital in securing the victory.
